The sweetest of them all...

potatoes that is...go HERE for soup heaven..

Food....

I am an optimistic kind a gal.
I have many things in this crazy, scary, sinful world of ours that I choose to find lovely, pleasant and down right wonderful.
One of the things in this world that brings me great joy....is food.
I just love it.
I love talking about it.
Eating it.
Smelling it.
Cooking it.
Planning for it.
Reading about it.
And taking pictures of it.

My family has a small health food, grocery store and I get to indulge myself by writing a blog for our store and taking pictures for the weekly ad items sometimes.

Yesterday I got to spend quality time hanging out with some ginger snaps and a whole grain raspberry muffin....and then....just like that....they mysteriously disappeared.

Something you may, or may not know about almond butter...it's really hard to get a picture of it that doesn't look like poop.  A tasty food, yes....an attractive food....no.

So while I have folders and folders of kid pictures on my computer...I also have folders and folders of food tucked in right beside them.

And now I must go find a snack...
and maybe take a picture of it.

Eat...

Sometimes I write about food and other things, like the price of bananas, over here at our family's grocery store's blog....

anyone have a tomato or two growing in their garden?

Roast those babies up with fresh basil, garlic, pasta and Romano cheese.

Later I'll give you my address so you can send thank you notes...it's just that delicious.

Pie....

I just down right love pie.
After this Thanksgiving I am convinced it's the apple's favorite way to be eaten.
Oh love.

Warm hearts, warm hands, warm tummies...

What a lovely way to spend a snowy day...

Tastie.....

Fact:
I am a vegetarian
My mom is a vegetarian
My mom's mom was a vegetarian
I grew up in a grocery store that caters to vegetarians

This means I no lika the meat!!
It's a texture thing for me, I've tried it many times and I always feel like you just have to decide to swallow at some point, it never feels like your really done chewing. I don't know, the whole eating dead flesh thing....just can't do it. This also means I don't have a clue how to cook a dead animal either. My husband however does eat meat. This means he has to eat all vegetarian all the time at our house. Before you feel sorry for him let me assure you he has not lost any weight in the last 12 years of marriage. Perhaps gained a pound or two.

So I have for you today a tastie little morsel....
Now that I am feeling better and have started eating regularly again I also am back to updating our family grocery store's blog

Go HERE to find out how these little guys become my most favorite soup....

Juice...

remember those beautiful, jewel like, grapes hanging around my neighbor's yard....
they are now the most tasty juice you have ever wrapped your lips around sitting on my counter.

A little taste of sweet October....say....in February when you can't quite remember what it was like to feel the sun on your face or smell the sweet, sweet smell of mother earth.
What a lovely gift from my neighbor and her diligent garden.

Merry Christmas...

For Christmas this year we all got my mom and her girls a cooking class at our local Someone's in the Kitchen. One thing has led to another and we finally this week got around to partaking in mom's Christmas gift this week.
Someone's in the Kitchen is both a resturant and cooking school in downtown Walla Walla. They have kids classes, couples cooking and....bread making classes.

Gene, the chef and teacher at Someone's in the Kitchen.
My sweet momma...when we lived in southeast Alaska my mom would GRIND her own flour and bake bread for our family. We lived so remotely we couldn't get to the grocery store. My mom would call in her order on the camp radio and cross her fingers she would get what she asked for when a float plane flew out everyones' orders. This lady knows her way around some flour, yeast and water. It has been a few years however...and we were making some recipes that were new to her. Plus and evening with her two daughters....what's not to like!

On the menu for the evening was whole wheat bread, polenta bread, fennel crackers and sourdough flat bread with a variety of toppings.

My sister-in-law brought her very own "bun in the oven" to our baking class
We "baked" our flat bread on the open grill...
Our sourdough flat bread....have mercy it was good!
We also topped them with things like our fresh made pesto...
Thinly sliced cooked potatoes and caramelized onions....
tomatoes, kalamata olives and olive oil.
We did not leave hungry.
It was so good.
I must bake soon.
Yum.
