It's official...

Funny thing happened last night at graduation. I was sitting next to a nice young man who was graduating with a degree in global economics. He asked me what I was graduating with, I told him a masters of social work degree. He asked me what my plans were, if I had a job all lined up or if I was still interviewing. I explained to him that I was going to be staying home with my babies till both of them were in school. He said, "Wow, your a little over educated to be a stay at home mom don't ya think?" I laughed and said, "You must not have children. Because if you did you would know that the two of them put together are WAY smarter than me on my best days."
So why do it? My dear friends have been asking me for years, " Are you done yet?" No, has always been the answer, I have kept plugging away for the past umpteen years.
I did it because every time the crowd would clap for something at the graduation ceremony, my two year old would enthusiastically cheer and clap, "YAAAAA MOMMY."
I did it because my four year old kept telling everyone that we were going to mommy's celebration.
I did it for my daughters so that when they are making their way through this world and they think, "Ahhhh, I can't do that because (insert whatever life struggle might be in the way)," that they will have an example to challenge that thought.
I did it because girls rule.
I did it because Someone has plans for me and my life that are so much greater than the ones that I can think up for myself.
So, to answer that young man's question: You can NEVER be to educated for the most influential job of your life.

  3. Congratulations! What a big day for you.

I will most likely never use my degree, but am never sorry that I went to school. It is a starting point for many things.

    Well done!
